The Rainbow Star features long, slender arms with a radius reaching up to 21 cm. Its body exhibits a striking red hue adorned with irregular orange-yellow bands. Notably, long spines are surrounded by ruffled rings of pedicellaria at their base.
Habitat
This species is commonly found inhabiting rocky areas and sandy bottoms along the eastern Pacific coast.
Geographical Range
From Alaska to southern California, the Rainbow Star thrives across a considerable stretch of the western coast of North America.
Diet
Feeding habits of the Rainbow Star include gastropods, chitons, barnacles, and tunicates. Additionally, it demonstrates the ability to excavate bivalves from sandy substrates.
