Physical Description

The Chestnut Cowry features a glassy brown shell that can reach up to 70 mm in size. Its shell has an elongate aperture edged with rounded tooth-like denticles and appears shiny brown with whitish margins. The mantle is orange-brown with dark markings, usually expanded to cover most of the shell.

Habitat

Moderately common but spotty, often found in deeper, wave-exposed sites.

Geographical Range

The Chestnut Cowry is found from Monterey Bay to Baja.

Diet

It feeds on sponges, ascidians, and even anemones.
