Physical Description
The Gumboot Chiton holds the title of the largest chiton globally, reaching sizes of up to 30 cm. It boasts a brick-red girdle that completely covers its eight shell plates.
Habitat
Abundant along the eastern Pacific coast, Gumboot Chitons inhabit rocky or sandy substrates.
Geographical Range
From the Aleutian Islands to the Channel Islands, including Santa Barbara, the Gumboot Chiton is found along the Pacific coast.
Diet
Primarily herbivorous, feeding on red algae with some brown algae.
